KnackeredAnd I would walk 500 more. Ok, maybe I won’t do exactly that though but only because I am physically incapable of walking that far.

I am now back home and I’m playing this The Proclaimers CD I once bought in England when I was young. It reminds me of good times and it makes me happy.

For the last 5 days we stayed at friends I know from those days back in 1989 – 1991. Before Facebook, before internet. When I left we used to write letters for some time but I wasn’t very good at it. And for a longtime I stopped writing because I was, well, let’s say very sad.

We picked up where we left long ago thanks to internet though. People become friends again that way as if time has stood still. And you make new friends along the way, I for one have new friends in England that are dear to me too now. You might even say they are like family, that’s how good these friends are to us.

We were supposed to meet last Christmas but unfortunately we couldn’t get it all arranged in time. Imagine my surprise last Thursday when we went to his parents and a grand Christmas dinner was waiting for us! Turkey Breast, Cranberry Jam, Parsnips, Sprouts, Roast Potatoes, Carrots, Stuffing, Christmas Crackers, Christmas pudding with Custard and more. Just unbelievable as it all developed in front of our eyes, beyond believe!

I wonder what the neighbours would have thought when they heard us singing along with Christmas songs by Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Jim Reeves and others as we partied together as if it was mid winter and Christmas day! So we toasted with glasses of Ale and Wine and were a merry lot celebrating a Merry Christmas. In August.

Sometimes I want to have everything to stay as it is and I wished I could just walk over there now and drink a pint with those friends. I would walk 500 miles for that for sure.

This last week I did take 49,619 steps to follow my love. That is 22.8 miles as my iPhone shows me. And it’s a lot for me but I did it for love. In the last week we went to England to visit friends, dear friends. And we walked for miles through Norwich, Sheringham, Holt, Lingwood, Great Yarmouth and other places in Norfolk together. To go on the Poppy Line in Sheringham, see the Fireworks in Great Yarmouth, for a lovely High Tea at Biddy’s Tearoom in Norwich, to have a lovely family BBQ and to create the greatest memory of all, Christmas Dinner in Summer.

But I followed her back home in the end, walking. For love. Tired, exhausted, shattered, knackered, happy. I would walk 500 miles. Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles to fall down at her door. And I would walk 500 more. For friendship.

This is me, I am a bit old-fashioned and like old stuff from long ago like British sitcoms such as All Creatures Great And Small for example. I like mechanical watches, fountain pens, vinyl records, bi-focal glasses and old electric model trains. I don’t like modern things and I am currently working on an old-fashioned model railway. I follow Jesus and write my poems mostly about Him but I write about life too. Driven by ADHD. Eccentric. You can often find me in the kitchen at parties.
